Amsterdam is the only city in Montgomery County, located just over 30 miles west of Albany, on the banks of the beautiful Mohawk River in Central Upstate New York.
With nearly 20,000 residents, Amsterdam still maintains a small town quality of life, and neighbors regularly come together at more than a dozen community events and activities throughout the year. In addition to the Spring Fling, Annual Soup and Wing festivals, a Craft Beer fest and many other events, residents enjoy summer concerts, farmers markets, youth & adult sports leagues and a beautiful municipal golf course designed by the legendary golf course designer, Robert Trent Jones, Sr.
Distinguishing it from other communities in the area, Amsterdam has more than 25 green spaces and public parks, including Shuttleworth Park, home to the Amsterdam Mohawks Baseball Team. The city is also home to the Erie Canal Bike Path with more than 200 miles of trails, and many scenic walks, the most notable of which is the Mohawk Valley Gateway Overlook Bridge & Riverlink Trail.
Amsterdam is also a great place to work. The city has several incentive programs designed to attract new businesses, as well as assist existing businesses with expansion or renovation of their current facilities.
